April is Earth Month!
Lots of great things are happening around the company. Read on to find out what’s going on at your business.
Earth Month “Go Discover” Contest
This year, the Global Energy Initiative launched a new Earth Month contest for employees, the “Go Discover” photo competition. We encouraged our colleagues from around the world to get out and explore their worlds, and they sent us photos of their adventures: from trips to local science museums and volunteer clean-up events to bike rides and their best nature photos.
Fox Brings Energy Playground to Annual Earth Day Fair
The Earth Day Fair on the Fox Studios Lot in Los Angeles drew one of its largest crowds to date this year. Nearly three thousand Fox employees, their friends, and family members gathered on the Lot to enjoy the outdoors and to learn a little more about ways to protect the planet.
Setting this year’s fair apart was the Energy Playground, a massive installation designed by the nonprofit Global Inheritance. Attendees and their kids could ride swings, pedal stationary bikes, and even run on giant hamster wheels to generate clean energy to power the event.
Other environmental organizations present included Tree People, Heal the Bay, Downtown Women’s Center, Plug In America, and Friends of the LA River. For more information, view MyFoxLA’s report on the fair below:
Fox Broadcasting Commemorates Earth Day with Employee Events, On-Air Campaigns
For Earth Day 2014, FOX Broadcasting Company continued its commitment to “Green It. Mean It.,” an initiative designed to raise both viewer and employee awareness on environmental issues. The on-air campaign included “Green Tips” from FOX’s most beloved talent, including stars from The Mindy Project, Surviving Jack, Gang Related, Almost Human, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Enlisted, Sleepy Hollow, and Dads. In addition, using the Twitter handle @FOXTV, FOX tweeted a new eco-friendly tip every day in April.
FOX also helped get the word out about Earth Day by producing a webisode with Bones star Emily Deschanel and compiling a highlight reel of green clips from this season’s shows, including Family Guy, The Simpsons, New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mindy Project, American Dad, Cosmos, Surviving Jack, Sleepy Hollow, Bones, and Bob’s Burgers.
Star’s ‘Satyamev Jayate’ Takes on India’s Waste Problem
Last month, STAR India launched the second season of Satyamev Jayate, a talk show in which Bollywood star Aamir Khan addresses some of India’s most sensitive social issues. In a recent episode, the series shifted its focus to environmental concerns and explored the issue of proper waste management in India’s cities. Khan concluded the episode by showcasing some Indian NGOs that are leading the way in innovative waste management. Click here to watch the episode.
Sky Italia Engages Employees, Viewers
For this year’s Earth Day, Sky Italia seized the opportunity to reach out to both audiences and employees with ways they can help protect the planet. The company aired environment-related films and documentaries–including Blue Sky’s Epic for the first time on Italian TV–on all Sky Italia channels, as well as special stories and interviews on the Sky TG24 news channel. Earth Day promos ran across all channels and online at Sky.it.
The company organized its employee programs under the slogan “Reduce. Recycle. Reuse.” to directly combat waste, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions. The team created videos about Sky’s green projects to share with their colleagues, and in May, the company will host an electronics recycling drive.
